Comparing the Candidates' Positions

Beto O'Rourke

Immigration and Border Security

Immigrants contribute to building the strength, success, and security of the United States. The security of the Mexican/Texan border has never been so high, yet the government spendings are the highest they have ever been. The future immigration reforms should focus on ensuring their safety and integration, providing them a path to work, family reunification and citizenship.

Health Care

Healthcare should be universal and ensure that all individuals are taken in charge when they need it. Beto wants to get out of a rhetoric in which, according to him, people refuse to seek medical care because they can’t afford it, or when they do, they’re so sick they have no choice but to go to the Emergency Room where the cost will be many times more expensive and the outcome will be worse.

Government accountability

Beto has refused to use PAC to support his campaign. He also sides with the Democrats who are largely against gerrymandering and historically have not gained as much as the GOP has.

Economy

The government should ensure that every Texan benefits from the country’s economic growth and that every person who is willing to work has a chance to. Quality apprenticeship and good infrastructures should be worked on. Beto also wants to protect the Earned Income Tax Credit that benefits millions of hardworking American families and promote the Family and Medical Leave Act to ensure those families can stay healthy and strong.

Education

The education system should take steps towards moving control to the classroom and empowering teachers to fulfill their calling by having autonomy to teach their students and reduce the emphasis on arbitrary, high-stakes tests. Public funding should be increased for low income and underserved communities.

Ted Cruz

Immigration & Border Security

Cruz supports the idea of building a wall and increasing the number of border patrol agents in order to protect our borders. He wants to reform the current immigration system.

Government Accountability

Cruz supports the use of gerrymandering, where political parties redraw voting districts. He also supports allowing the use of PACs for funding political campaigns.

Education

Cruz supports allowing private schools to receive public tax money. He and the GOP do not support students using the bathroom of their choice based on gender identity and supports legislation requiring students to use the bathroom based on their sex at birth.

Healthcare

Since Sen. Cruz took office, he has been a leading voice for repealing Obamacare, which according to him isn’t working, causing millions to lose their jobs, be forced into part-time work, lose their doctors and health insurance, and pay skyrocketing premiums. Congress should make meaningful reforms to expand Health Savings Accounts, allow individuals to purchase insurance across state lines, and make healthcare more personal, portable, and affordable

Economy

A key component of Cruz’s pro-growth agenda is the American Energy Renaissance Act, which empowers the private sector to create more jobs and removes federal impediments to exploration, development, and trade. He advocates for the protection the Internet as a platform for innovation, defending it from taxes and regulations.
